A Little Of This And A Little Of That...

In Math we have been working on problem solving with our math partners. Today we compared quantities of Smarties and Fruit Loops. We wrote our thinking down in our math journals.

Since Read-To-Self is going so well, we decided to launch our Listen-To-Reading component of Daily 5.

We have also been working hard following our writing steps.

Our Home Reading Bags

Our reading bags are going home today. Your child will be bringing home a book at his/her level (based on the level they achieved in June) to be read every night.  Once your child has moved a level, the reading selection in the bag will be adjusted accordingly. Please return the bag and book every Friday.  The bag will be filled with a new book that will go home on Monday.

Happy Reading!!!

What's the rule?

Today in math the students worked together to choose 1 attribute of a shape (curved lines, points, etc.). They used this attribute as the “target” to compare the other shapes to. Once they found other shapes that matched the “target”, they pasted them all together and decided on a sorting rule. (Some students extended this learning by having 2 attributes to use as their target.).

Through this activity the students were able to:
-apply developing reasoning skills to make and investigate conjectures
-communicate mathematical thinking (orally)

What A Great Start!

It's hard to believe we have only been in school for 2 days.  We have already done so much. Here is our rule chart that we made together.  We used the phrase "I can..." before each rule in order to keep the focus on the positive.  We can all do these things!

We have also been reviewing our Jolly Phonics sounds and our numbers.  Today we began to write our first journal. We are working on an anchor chart for the steps we follow as writers.  I will post that when we are finished.

Finally, we welcome Mrs. Dykema to our classroom.  Mrs. D. is an Educational Assistant who will be helping us this year.

*Important Information*
Please send in an extra set of clothes to be left at school.  Also, your child will need a pair of running shoes for Phys. Ed. and indoor use.  These will also be kept at school on the shelf above your child's hook.
