"Achoo!"

It's that time again when we ask that you please send in more Kleenex boxes.  Our noses thank you in advance. ;)

The 100th Day Of School

Today we celebrated the 100th Day Of School.  It's hard to believe that we have been learning together for that long.  We started our day by bundling our 10 groups of 10 straws (the straws we have been collecting since the first day of school) into 1 group of 100. We then had a great discussion about the value of numbers.  The students compared the straws to the number 1 in 100.  They knew that the 1 didn't represent 1 but 1 group of 100.   We broke the number apart (again using our straws) and discovered that each number had a value depending on what place it held.

1=1 group of 100
0=0 groups of 10
0=0 groups of 1

We then took the concept of "groups of" to find the most efficient way to count 100 Fruit Loops.  Some used groups of 5 and some used groups of 10.

And of course we had to put the Fruit Loops on a string and make a necklace out of it when we were finished! Yummy!

We completed many more 100th Day Of School activities. Ask your child about "Race To 100"- the math game we played and the activities they completed with Miss Cosgrove who stopped by for a visit.

Thank you also to Kai's mom who made the most delicious brownies topped with 100 Smarties.  Of course there is no picture to share because they were gobbled up quickly! 😊
